Big Brew to kick off events on Oct. 20 in Houston

If you missed out on GABF this year, or couldn’t make it to the rescheduled Untapped Houston, you’ll get another chance to try some national and Texan beers at Houston’s Big Brew.

Houston’s first destination craft beer festival will be holding a week-long festival with daily events from Oct. 20-26.

Big Brew will have 85 breweries from all over the U.S. participating this year, making it the second largest beer festival in the nation. Over 40 of those breweries are from Texas, including, but not limited to: Karbach Brewing Co. Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co., Real Ale, Austin Beerworks, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. Lakewood Brewing Company, Thirsty Planet…the list goes on and on. I could name more, but you’re better off looking here for the complete list.

Events will be spread out over the week and will include beer dinners sponsored by Houston breweries, food pairings, and a pub crawl.

And if your liver is still functioning by the end of the week, it will be rewarded/punished with the Big Brew Grand Tasting Sessions, where you’ll find over 1,000 beers available to sample, the chance to meet brewers, live music, and the Spec’s University Seminar Stage.

And of course, no beer festival is complete without a beard contest. Nine of the best beards will be selected by Houston brewers and go on to compete on Oct. 25. The grand prize is a weekend stay at the Hyatt Regency Austin, and a tasting and dinner at Oasis Texas Brewing Company. Eight of the best beards have already been picked, but facial hair experts have one last chance to enter the contest on Oct. 18 at 2 pm at Lone Pint Brewery in Magnolia.
