East Oltorf St. will soon be known for something other than delicious Asian food (888 green curry, be still my heart), an influx of jaywalkers, and reasonable rent, as a second location of Burnet Rd.’s Growler Room will be calling the street home in upcoming weeks.
Taking up residence at 2400 East Oltorf #6A, right next to the aforementioned Pan Asian powerhouse 888 and the Indonesian gem Java Noodles (smart move to position a takeaway craft beer shop between two restaurants known for their takeaway), the team behind Growler Room is planning for a January or February opening pending TABC permits.
The second location marks a pretty rapid expansion for Growler Room considering they just opened up their original location in March of 2013. However, as the only storefront in Austin to dedicate itself solely to growler fills, it makes sense for them to begin quenching the thirsts of South and East Austinites as well. In other words, we aint complaining.
According to Owner Dean Schlett, the new location will boast 40 taps for takeaway beer, featuring breweries like (512), Live Oak, Karbach, Austin Beerworks, Thirsty Planet, Revolver, Guadalupe Brewing Co, Meridian Hive Meadery, Deschutes, Founders, Oskar Blues, Ballast Point, Abita and more.
The south location’s larger tap wall will allow Growler Room to dedicate more taps for local breweries’ core releases, as well as room for them to offer a couple different taps from each of the other breweries on the wall. Like the original location, there will also be a tap dedicated to Third Coast Frios Mio cold brewed coffee.
While the new shop’s hours of operation are not yet finalized, Schlett says they will most likely be something like Tues-Fri 1-9pm, Sat 12-9pm, Sun 12-6pm and closed Mondays.
Now we just have to work out 888 menu pairings for every beer on this tap wall. Kidding. Kind of.
