While Atlanta’s Sweetwater Brewing may be known for such family friendly brews as Happy Ending, Motor Boat, 420 and The Gimp, they keep it simple with their winter warmer, dubbed Festive Ale. But we picked it as number 11 in our 12 Brews of Christmas series for a far tastier reason.
Clocking in at a deceptive 8.6 percent abv, this smooth marriage of toasty malt, Christmas spices (“a taint of cinnamon” the label says…there’s that ol’ Sweetwater verbiage) and centennial and goldings hop notes come together to form a brew worthy of your Christmas list.
And I should know. I’m spending my Christmas holiday in Atlanta, and this brew was the perfect welcome gift. I mean, it’s not as ceremonious as 11 pipers piping, but it’s definitely tastier.
Festive Ale is brewed just one day a year and is currently available in 6 pack bottles, wax topped bombers and on draft in states where Sweetwater is sold. Grab one if you’re feeling festive.
