Austin Beer Week is only a few days away, which means we’re all gearing up for an onslaught of beer dinners, meet the brewer nights, brewery anniversary parties, and, of course, some new brew debuts.
To help Sherpa you through the fields of special tappings, we’ve compiled this list of a few enticing brews (and one cider) making their debuts during Austin Beer Week.
Pumpkin Ale: Texas Edition
About the brew: A pumpkin ale, turned Texas style! Just check out this description of how the beer was brewed for an idea of just how delicious this sounds:
“We’ll be tapping a brand new beer that Flixhouse Head Brewer Justin Rizza made just for Austin Beer Week: Pumpkin Ale: Texas Edition. To make this new fall beer, Rizza first smoked some Pilsener malt with pecan wood, then toasted guajillo and ancho chiles and pumpkin seeds. Adding that to the mash tun with Pilsener malt, a little crystal malt, Victory malt and a bit of flaked barley, Rizza poured in a bunch of pumpkin puree and a small dose of Nugget hops at the start of the boil for balance, leaving this Pumpkin Ale to ferment with a blend of yeasts (Scottish and English).”
Tapping: October 25 at Flix Brewhouse
Omniscience & Proselytism, Aurelian Lure and Nocturn Chrysalis
About the brews: Continuing in the auspicious path of Atrial Rubicite, the latest barrel aged sours to be refermented with fruit at Jester King, will be flavored with strawberries, apricots and blackberries, respectively.
Tapping: Jester King’s SOLD OUT Funk N’ Sour Fest
Hops & Grain/ Pinthouse Pizza:
A Peach of a Pale
About the brew: The first wide release collaboration beer between Hops & Grain and Pinthouse Pizza, this new peach pale ale will tap at three different events during Austin Beer Week.
Tapping: Oct 25 at Pinthouse Pizza (5pm) and Hi Hat Public House (8pm).
It will also be featured in the Hops & Grain beer dinner at Whole Foods.
Black Star Co-op:
Molly Moocher (special cask)

Tapping: Oct 28, 4pm at Black Star Co-op
Dry Hopped Cider (Not beer, but enticing nonetheless)
About the brew: You might have already had the chance to sample this new East Side cidery’s flagship Gold Top cider at a bar around town in the last few days, but at its official release party, slated during Austin Beer Week, the cidery will also be tapping a new, unique concoction–a dry hopped cider with warrior hops.
Tapping: Nov 2, 4-7pm (RSVP for this Official Gold Top launch party–free cider and food from Micklethwait meats.)
