This Sunday, October 13th, South Austin Brewing will be hosting a seven hour dance party to raise money for Beat Dystonia. Featuring 5 bands over the seven hours, this dance party will serve as an extended version of SABC’s “Groovy Sundays.” Beyond being able to sample their Belgian-style ales, there will be food trucks, a silent auction and raffle.
Dystonia is a disease often misdiagnosed. Similar in symptoms to Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia causes involuntary movement. This devastates everyone from musicians to athletes to those who just love to dance.
“I was terribly self-conscious about how I looked and how I moved. And now, I’m often the first person on the dance floor,” said Kate Howard, a dystonia patient and co-producer of the event. “Once you’re out there and the music starts, you can express yourself however you feel moved to. It’s joy and enthusiasm that people respond to–not dance moves.”
This Sunday’s dance party is a celebration of dancing and encourages everyone to get down. If you need some liquid courage, SABC’s beers come in at 7.8% and 8% ABV a piece. Grab a few and put on your dancing shoes!
