PRODUCTION BEGINS FOR
1400 MILES: BEYOND BEER — CRAFT & COMMUNITY
1400 Miles is the story of successful craft beer pioneers who set out on a life-changing 1400 mile bicycle journey to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
Austin, TX and Denver, CO — Monday, August 5, 2013 – 1400 Miles Productions Executive Producer Courtney Cobb, Director Thomas Kolicko and Producer Debbie Cerda announce the start of production of feature-length documentary, 1400 Miles: Beyond Beer — Craft & Community.
From the team behind Crafting A Nation, 1400 Miles is a ride and film produced by a group of individuals who will create a community through their love for craft beer, filmmaking and cycling. Our goal is to raise awareness for prostate cancer and stress the importance of all men knowing their own health.
Motivated by North by Northwest (NXNW) brewmaster Don Thompson’s inspirational recovery from prostate cancer, 1400 Miles The Film follows the rigorous journey of NXNW owner and founder Davis Tucker along with other successful craft beer pioneers, all to raise awareness for prostate cancer. Davis will ride the 1400 miles in 14 days from Austin, Texas to Denver, Colorado – on his bike.
Shooting for the film begins in mid-September, and will take place across Texas through New Mexico into Colorado. Principal shooting will continue in Denver, Colorado as the ride ends on the eve of the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in early October.
1400 Miles will also document fundraisers in the seven major stops along the way, with proceeds from the events to be directed to the Pints for Prostates non-profit organization. Founded by beer writer and prostate cancer survivor Rick Lyke in 2008, the Pints for Prostates campaign raises awareness among men about the importance of regular health screenings and early detection.
“Every young artist has their breakout work. For our team, it was Crafting A Nation. We have spent the past three years of our lives submerged in craft beer; inevitably we fell in love, and found ourselves very comfortable documenting the stories and people behind craft beer. But our team continues to blossom, and we really will never know what we can accomplish until we step outside of our comfort zone. Thus, we are combining our skills and passions to create our next film, 1400 Miles.” Executive Producer Courtney Cobb
“The challenge of 1400 miles in 14 days is more than a bit daunting and I’m sure there will be tough moments. But if we can raise awareness and education about prostate cancer just a bit, how many lives can we save?” Davis Tucker
Huge kudos to Tucker and co. for sticking it out and cycling for this great cause. We can’t help but think there will be moments along the way when he will long for the comforts of The Beerliner, his usual GABF transportation method of choice, which we have to assume will be making the 1400 mile journey as well.
