The folks behind The Beer Diaries, a web series that celebrates and promotes craft beer in Austin and around the world, are taking their dedication to that mission one step further with a new online feature that allows fans to take interactive tours of the breweries spotlighted on the show.
It’s called the Brewery Explorer, and it isn’t just your average 360 panorama, but is actually a pretty immersive virtual experience, complete with the functionality to zoom, pan and travel from room to room within the brewhouse. And when accessing the Brewery Explorer from a mobile device like an iPad or iPhone, users can take advantage of the device’s inner gyroscope to have movement within the brewhouse mirror their own physical hand movements. (You know, like Banjo-Kazooie for iPhone style.)
The first 12 episodes of the Beer Diaries all feature in-depth chats with Austin-based brewers. The first Brewery Explorer features Twisted X Brewing’s original brewhouse (they are currently building a larger facility out in Dripping Springs) which was featured on Episode 1 of the show. More Brewery Explorer features should be trickling out in succession in the coming weeks to accompany the other 11 existing Beer Diaries episodes.
The Brewery Explorer is the brainchild of The Beer Diaries’ Drew Lintz, who serves as its director, designer, programmer and photographer.
The video below sheds a little more light on all of the Brewery Explorer’s features (not to mention it gives a little sneak peak into the upcoming (512) Brewing tour) give it watch before heading over to The Beer Diaries website for a tour of Twisted X.
