Red Rover: Collaboration Cask with Black Star Co-Op

Like I always say, “Why am I not drinking while I’m cooking?”

“Red Rover, Red Rover, let Jeffy come over!”

For those of you who don’t remember, Red Rover was that unsuspectingly dangerous childhood game that your mom got mad at you for playing in the living room and always ended with your wimpy friend in tears.

Here’s the gist of it all: Two teams of kids stand opposite of each other with linked hands. One side sings the little Red Rover medley and picks a kid from the opposing team. Then that kid runs as fast as he or she can at the opposing line of children and either breaks the linked hands or not. Or if you had shitty friends like I did, the kids would let go of each other at the last second, and the poor clueless kid would run through and either trip and fall or run into a tree or wall or something.

Look how red that beer is!

Luckily Bitch Beer’s Red Rover will be nothing like that. A little while ago, the Bitch Beer ladies headed up to Black Star Co-Op to collaborate with head brewer Jeff Young on a cask we dubbed “Red Rover.”

For this once-in-a-lifetime brew, we took fresh basil, strawberries, and hand-zested lemons, added them to Black Star’s Rover – a golden Belgian ale with local wildflower honey – and then set it aside to let the magic of science do its thing.

The Red Rover team!

To celebrate the birth of Red Rover, we’re throwing a little party at Black Star next Monday, and we hope you’ll all come out and enjoy it with us. And hey, if all goes well, maybe we’ll play our own version of Drunk Red Rover. Cross your fingers!

What: Cask Night: Red Rover
Where: Black Star Co-Op
When: Monday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Why: To celebrate the tapping of Red Rover

Red Rover will be the first of hopefully many cask collaborations for Bitch Beer. While most of these are still under wraps, we’re setting our sites high with Hanson and their infamous MMMHop IPA, Obama and his Honey Porter, a super rare Xima cask, and you know, maybe even some local breweries. Stay tuned for more details!
