Beer of the Week: Live Oak Hefeweizen

Live Oak Hefe

In honor of American Craft Beer Week, the Bitch Beer girls have decided to kick off the very first Beer of the Week! This week’s featured beer is a local craft brew & one of my personal favorites, the hefeweizen from Live Oak.

Located off of East 5th, Live Oak is an Austin craft brew staple that just celebrated its 15th anniversary. Live Oak has yet to bottle but its keg/draft-only status leaves its fans constantly wanting more. Fortunately this wonderfully light beer is available at bars and restaurants all around Austin. I even found it being served at my local coffee shop!

Live Oak hefe is a great light summer beer and is refreshing for those 100 degree days. This hefe is brewed with notes of clove, vanilla and banana. These flavors come together to create a tart, citrusy flavor that makes it easy to enjoy more than one! In my experience Live Oak is very consistent in flavor and I have yet to have a bad glass of hefe. Though it may be questionable to some out there, I always drink my Live Oak hefe with a squeeze of lemon. The bright taste of the lemon really accentuates the notes in the hefe and adds that extra level of flavor.

Be on the look out of Live Oak hefe because it is probably served at a restaurant or bar near you and is a great summer selection!

Have a hefeweizen for me!

  1. Hello There. I found your blog using msn. This is a really well written article. I will make sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your useful info. Thanks for the post. I will certainly return.

  2. My all time favorite beer!! I fear I seem like a deperate patron when my first question to a waiter or waitress in the Dallas area is: do you have Live Oak Hefe??? If the answer is yes there is a celebration! If it is no, ‘y immediate response is: well why not!!!???
It’s perfect for a later bloomer in the world of beer! My years as a discerning lover of wines makes me appreciate the bright boquet this lush brew presents. But it is the fleeting wisp of bubblegum that stole my whimiscal heart with this one… Plus it’s a home brewed burnt orange delight. I’m “hooked”!!!
